The ASBU Media Training Academy’s activities during the last quarter of this year

 The ASBU Media Training Academy’s activities during the last quarter of 2023 was distinguished by the organization of a series of training courses covering various fields of audiovisual work, both in programming and engineering. The courses targeted strategic axes to keep pace with modern technological developments. This activity ranged from in-person training to online training, and witnessed the contribution of our Partners in the collaboration to implement the courses.

In-person training Session on Radio News Writing and Presentation

Held over five days from October 2nd to October 6th, 2023, it has been executed in Arabic in collaboration with the France Media Monde Academy. The course focused on presenting modern developments in editing and presenting radio news. It included practical exercises in editing and application. Thirteen trainees from six ASBU member organizations participated in this course.

In-person training course on "Satellite Broadcasting" from October 9th to October 13th, 2023

Conducted in Arabic in collaboration with ArabSat. This course focused on understanding the satellite broadcasting system, its components, ground station technology, and the software used in calculations. It also covered satellite systems DVB-S/S2/X/EXT. The program included practical training on link calculation using software. Thirteen trainees from seven ASBU member organizations participated in this training .

In-person training course on "Television Interviews in the Studio" from October 16th to October 20th, 2023

Executed in Arabic, it aimed at enhancing participants’ skills in conducting television and radio interviews, both in form and content. The course covered providing basic information and practical exercises at various stages, from preparation to post-live broadcast, preparing for emergencies. Nine trainees from seven ASBU member organizations participated. 

In-person training course on "Automation and Planning of Radio Broadcasting" from October 23rd to October 27th, 2023

Conducted in Arabic, the course aimed to equip trainees with the skills required for using radio broadcasting systems in recording and broadcasting. It included theoretical aspects such as presenting the specifications of the radio automation system and understanding its functions, along with practical sessions. Nine trainees from five member organizations participated.

In-person training course on "Data Journalism for Economic and Financial News" from November 6th to November 9th, 2023

Conducted in Arabic, the course aimed to enable journalists to edit economic and financial information attractively and effectively. It covered various methods of explanation, simplification, and the software used in data production (graphics, charts). Eleven trainees from six radio and television ASBU members participated.

Online training course on "New Templates and Content for Generation Z" from November 14th to November 16th, 2023

Organized as part of the partnership program with the EBU Academy, targeting content editors, producers, and directors of youth programs and those responsible for radio and television programming. The course aimed to understand the viewing and listening habits of youth and ways to attract them back to traditional formats. It included sessions for practical exercises. Seventeen trainees from nine ASBU member organizations participated.

Online training course on "Advanced Podcasting – Level Two" from November 27th to November 30th, 2023

Organized in collaboration with the EBU Academy, targeting producers in audio radio and podcast producers across all media. The course aimed to deepen digital and audio skills, improve the quality of production in narrative writing and sound design, and build a community on social networks. Twenty trainees from nine ASBU radio and television Members participated.

In-person training course on "Mobile Journalism – Level One" from December 11th to December 15th, 2023

Considered one of the essential courses in the annual schedule of the Academy. It focused on the benefits and challenges of mobile phone usage for journalistic purposes. The course included practical exercises within training rooms and fieldwork (a 3-minute reportage) which was presented and discussed in a group session. Nine trainees participated.

International training course in collaboration with the Italian Radio and Television (RAI) and the COPEAM, Rome (Italy) from November 22nd to November 24th, 2023

It was the second and successful international training course organized in collaboration between the COPEAM, the Italian Radio and Television (RAI), and the ASBU Academy. The course focused on “Podcast Revolution: New Strategies in Radio Broadcasting.” Held in Rome at the RAI headquarters, it covered the latest trends and strategies for podcast production. Ten trainees from ASBU radio Members in Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Lebanon, Oman, and Saudi Arabia, attended this training  along with participants from Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, Kosovo, and Serbia.
