Free online course The role of media in disaster risk reduction
The Arab States Broadcasting Union Academy is pleased to announce the launch of a new online and free course about “The Role of Media in Disaster Risk Reduction” on the Academy’s eLearning platform.
This lesson is the Arabic version of the original English lesson completed by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). UNDRR gave the rights to ASBU to exploit and adapt the Arabic version on the ASBU Academy’s eLearning platform.
This online course aims to help media professionals, journalists and radio and television program officials produce and present news, reports and professional programs on disaster risks before, during and after their occurrence.
This course consists of six sections:
- General introduction to the course
- Fundamentals of Disaster Risk Reduction
- Introduction to Early Warning Systems
1.3: Unified Warning Protocol
2.3: Weather Forecasting
3.3: Tsunami disaster
- Disasters in News & Programs
- Documentaries and awareness programs
- Disaster Coverage in the Arab Region.
This free course is open to all, especially Arab journalists and producers of radio and television programs, and contributes to informing them and helping them to complete professional news and productions that enable disaster risk reduction and contribute to saving lives and facilities. The Arabic version was revised by Ms. Hanan Zbiss (Tunisia) and she added the sixth section on the Arab region.
Success Certificate:
All six sections of this lesson end with quizzes that must be completed and you have t obtain an average of 5 out of 10 in each section.
Those who obtain at least this average receive automatically an Open Badge and then they are asked to complete a form to obtain a paper success certificate.
